Coming-of-Age Short Film "Keel" to Screen at the Beverly Hills Film Festival
The April 20th 2023 Premiere will be the First of Four Festival Screenings
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 1, 2023) - Keel, a 10-minute period drama directed by Margaret Seid, is set to premiere as an Official Selection at the Beverly Hills Film Festival on Thursday, April 20th at 1:30 PM PST. This highly anticipated screening will be the first of four festival screenings, including the Arizona International Film Festival and the Venice Shorts festival, where it has also been selected as an Official Selection, and the Indie Short Fest, where it has been named a Semi-Finalist.
Keel is a captivating coming-of-age story set in 1977, based on the true story of how Seid’s parents met in Los Angeles. The film follows protagonist Kathleen "Keel" as she returns home to Los Angeles following her first year of college. After being stood up by her date, she focuses on securing a summer job at a local burger joint. But when her best friend's boyfriend Brent unexpectedly runs into an old high school classmate, Keel's summer plans take an unexpected turn.
"This film represents the variation of emotions that a sensitive young woman feels while just reaching adulthood in 1977," said director Margaret Seid. "I truly fell in love with the filmmaking process while making such a personal, yet universal story. There is a fire within me to continue directing compelling female-driven narratives that evoke honest human emotions, and I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to make this film."
Keel was brought to life through the collaborative efforts of a talented team, including producers Kennedy Martin, Max Stafford of Three Mask Media, and associate producer Cierra McGrew. KEEL’s modern take on visually compelling compositions that resurface the vivid imagery and colors of the 70’s was captured by cinematographer John Peirce Dellanno. The performances of Anna Connelly as Keel, Meir Parent as Brent, and Chloé Dos Santos as Val bring depth and authenticity to the characters and the story, making "Keel" a must-see short.
About Margaret Seid: Margaret is a filmmaker born and raised in Central Phoenix, Arizona. She discovered her passion for filmmaking at a young age, creating camcorder videos and game show skits with her friends. In 2021, she graduated from Chapman Dodge College of Film with a BFA in Documentary and is currently pursuing her MFA in Film/TV Production at USC. With experience in both documentary and narrative projects, Margaret has directed and produced multiple award-winning short films, each with strong, female-driven narratives. Her goal is to continue making films that showcase the experiences and emotions of women and inspire audiences to view the world from a female perspective.
